British Columbia – Part I

Finally made it to CANADA! Turns out most of interior B.C. is on fire. An uneventful border crossing had me headed to Kelowna on track for the Tuesday night dad’s ride (inescapable). On arrival, I was out of the car, into the truck and onto the bike. Even at 6pm it was still 85deg. and smokey. The red sunset made you feel like we had been mountain biking on Mars. Lucky to be based in Kelowna for my time in interior B.C. keeping most riding destinations within a few hours drive.

After two days riding around Kelowna, I was put in touch with a shop just over an hour south of town in Penticton. A beautiful drive around Okanagan Lake landed me at Freedom Bike Shop. These guys have rides dialed. Anytime you’re told “Grab a beer for the ride up and one for the trail.” you know its going to be good. Thanks to the Thursday night crew for the hospitality.

Thursday night in Penticton had me feeling a little sluggish so I headed to Silver Star for some afternoon park laps.

Sunday morning I woke up early to meet a crew from Kamloops in Salmon Arm. My only information was to be in the McDonald’s parking lot by 10:30am…Before long a legit shuttle van appeared and off into the woods we went.
